It has only started happening today! Sometimes, this can help move dust or other obstructions that block the laser eye from reading the disc. Don't know about the Apple Geniuses in the genuine Apple Stores (not available in my area), but apparently the PB G4's display replacement seems to be one of the biggest nightmares It worked. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5031507?tstart=0

This problem came up on me gradually. I guess the nature of laptops is that they are more prone to being around dirty environments; thus attracting more crud in the drive. Usually they're data discs as my old man insists on sending me movies as AVI files.

Accepting and Reading Discs Inspect the disc you want to insert into the MacBook optical drive. Reset The Smc Macbook Pro So I guess I should open it up to see if it needs a clean. Toggle the various options in this preferences pane to different values, then revert them to see if you can spur a difference in behavior. Mac Won't Read Discs It may be working now.. Insert the disc into the slot and push it in until the optical drive grabs it and pulls it into the slot.

A MacBook optical drive replacement could set you back as much as $250 (possibly more) for parts and labour. You will need a third party DVD/Blu-Ray player to enjoy movies on your Mac. The disk slot only opens if the cd drive is connected to a laptop, and once connected to my laptop I am able to insert and remove DVDs etc: it's just Insert another disc in the optical drive.
